From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The pilot privacy data omitted stated that he was caught by an unexpected gust of wind from the south and he lost control during his efforts to counteract the effect of the crosswind. According to a CFI rated witness interviewed the following day at Compton-Woodley airport the pilot was observed making multiple touch-and-go landings at cpm under a 14 CFR part 91 flight, originating at hhr. The C-177RG, N1844Q was landing to runway 25L. The aircraft was observed to have fully extended wing-flaps. Upon the 5th landing the aircraft experienced a "hard landing and porpoised back into the air in a nose high attitude." This resulted in the aircraft landing hard in a nose low attitude, the front landing gear collapsing and the airplane pivoting about its left wing-tip and coming to rest nearly 600 feet away pointing in an easterly direction, on its main landing gear only.
