From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The pilot of this flight is a student pilot with an expired student pilot/medical certificate conducted a cross country flight for which he was not authorized by an appropriately rated flight instructor and for which he had not received instruction. The pilot stated that he elected to land on an open field at the Harvey, ND municipal airport, rather than the active runway since such a landing would not require a crosswind landing. On roll out, the aircraft struck a ditch that was partially obscured by tall grass. The right landing gear and propeller were damaged during the incident. The pilot received no injuries.
