From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilot had fuselage tank topped with six gallons prior to departure to massey air ranch. Aircraft departed runway 11 and immediately reported that he had an emergency and needed to return. Pilot attempted to land on runway 02. Aircraft touched down parallel to runway 02 approximately 100 feet from north side of runway at a high rate of speed. Left wing struck small trees and caused aircraft to turn 180 degrees and cartwheel up on its left wing. Aircraft then impacted large tree tail first. Fuselage separated at the main spar with the instrument panel and engine wrapping around the tree. Pilot's seat belt pulled loose from mounting point and pilot fell to ground in front of aircraft.
