From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Airman was on its 2nd flight of the demonstration phase of an amateur homebuilt-progressive aerodyne 'Searey' aircraft. While performing a water landing the aircraft flipped upside down, causing substantial damage. Weather was not a factor, the lake surface was calm and glassy. Cockpit airspeed needle indicates 36 mph, Searey designed stall speed is 38-40 mph. Airspeed indicator was waterlogged. Possible the aircraft flipped due to stall condition, which would be consistent with witness statement indicating the 'nose dipped down' while flying low over lake. Airman has a sport pilot certificate with an AP-5 logbook endorsement. The Searey aircraft requires airman to receive and log ground and flight training from an authorized instructor in a make and model within the same 'set' of aircraft as the make and model of aircraft the airman intends to operate, and a logbook endorsement from an authorized instructor who provided the airman with the specific training for the AP-4 'set' (float equippped aircraft). The pilot privacy data omitted did not have the proper endorsement.

As the FAA filed it

THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ DID NOT HAVE THE PROPER ENDORSEMENT.
