From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilot stated he departed kgwb about 17:30 EST enroute to kgsh. After take-off he climbed to 2500' and cruised straight and level at 90-100 mph for about 20 minutes. As he reached the elkhart county line the engine started running rough for about 10 seconds, then faded and died. He adjusted carburetor heat, throttle and mixture. When the propeller stopped he attempted a restart. The engine turned over, but would not catch. He selected an open corn field and landed. In the landing the nose wheel broke off, the propeller broke and the tail-cone was crushed.
