From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) N170BP departed mcgrath enroute to Nikolai on a special VFR clearance. Enroute the pilot encountered freezing drizzle which accumulated on the windshield, lift struts and the airframe. Upon arrival at Nikolai the windshield was covered with ice and because of the visibility limitations the first approach was abandoned. When the pilot applied power for the go-around the engine failed. The pilot landed in trees. The aircraft sustained substantial damage. After the crash the pilot and his son observed ice on the airfilter/intake. No injuries to the single occupant, pilot.
