From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The pilot privacy data omitted was cleared for the option for a solo touch and go approach to runway 23 at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport (lbe) in a conventional gear van's RV-8. Witness reports indicate on the third landing the pilot touched down in a tail low attitude near the displaced runway threshold. Witnesses indicate that the aircraft seemed to veer left/right slightly at which point the pilot immediately applied power and abruptly pulled the aircraft off the runway to an altitude of approximately 30 to 50 feet and began a roll to the left. Witnesses indicated the engine sounded normal, and that the aircraft continued to roll and turn left. The aircraft crossed the left edge of the runway and the parallel taxiway at an altitude of no more than 50 feet and a heading perpendicular to the runway centerline, prior to reaching the glide slope antenna. The aircraft continued the left turn at a very high bank angle, and began to descend toward a low wetland adjacent to the runway. The aircraft struck the ground left wingtip first, tearing the left wing and left main gear from the aircraft, and continued a counterclockwise cartwheel coming to rest upright on the right main gear and forward fuselage.

As the FAA filed it

(-23) THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS CLEARED FOR THE OPTION FOR A SOLO TOUCH AND GO APPROACH TO RUNWAY 23 AT ARNOLD PALMER REGIONAL AIRPORT (LBE) IN A CONVENTIONAL GEAR VAN'S RV-8.
