What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
(-23) On 12/11/07 at approximately 09:30 MST the aircraft appears to have impacted mountainous terrain while in cruise flight at approximately 7,000 feet MSL approximately 20 miles south of milford, UT. The flight was conducted iaw 14 CFR 91 under VFR rules, no flight plan was filed. The flight originated at Idaho falls, ID, kida at 07:30 MST and the destination was st. george, UT, ksgu. The pilot/owner was recently endorsed for high performance and complex airplanes and was qualified to act as pilot-in-command. There were two passengers. The passenger in the right front was an ATP rated elderly pilot who it appears was riding along as a mentor, his CFI was expired. An analysis of the prevailing weather along the route and in close proximity of the accident indicates very marginal VMC and at 7,000 MSL the aircraft likely encountered low ceilings and IMC conditions with snow showers. The pilot flight log was recovered at the scene. The aircraft records were recovered at kida and will be inspected. If anything is found in non-compliance an amended report will be filed. Blocks 21A (technical factors) and block 23 (wx factors) were intentionally left blank due to no information available.
