From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On 12/15/2007, at approximately 1005MST, PA-18 N91187 landed on runway 21 at ktus airport and as the airspeed decreased the pilot lost directional control of the aircraft due to a crosswind. ATIS reported the wind as calm and ATC assigned the aircraft runway 21. The active runway was 11L/R. ATC advised the PIC to "fly direct to the numbers." Prior to landing, the tower announced the winds variable at four knots. While turning short final, the PIC noticed a crosswind from the southeast. The PIC said he made a smooth wheel landing with the appropriate crosswind correction; however, during the roll out he lowered the tail and the wind from the southeast caught the tail and began looping the aircraft to the left. The PIC attempted to stop the ground loop, but was unable. The PIC said the aircraft subsequently did a 360 degree left turn and struck a taxiway sign at the intersection of runway 21 and taxiway a. minor damage was caused to the propeller, wheel struts and taxiway sign. There were no injuries.

As the FAA filed it
