From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Preliminary: according to the pilot, at 35 feet above lewis smith lake, the pilot was preparing to roll N2669A out of a right turn onto a heading of 330 (downwind) when a "snap" was heard by the pilot. N2669A made an uncommanded increase in bank angle to the right, increasing the load factor, resulting in an accelerated stall and loss of altitude. N2669A sank in approximately 130 feet of water. Due to underwater trees, attempts to locate N2669A by sonar and underwater camera continue. This document will be amended once the aircraft is available for inspection. Pilot stated fuel load was 7 gallons (45.5LBS) and that he weighs 190 lbs and his passenger weighs 185 lbs, totalling 420.5 lbs. Maximum take off weight is 996 lbs minus empty weight of 580 lbs for 416 lbs useful load. N2669A was 4.5 lbs over gross weight limit.
