From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The pilot was operating an uncertificated light-sport airplane. The pilot reported that he suspected an engine malfunction after encountering an updraft during the approach to the airport and elected to land the aircraft in a field near the airport. The nose gear collapsed after the aircraft hit a rut during the landing roll out. The pilot-owner of the aircraft reported that there was adequate fuel on board the aircraft and that he did not find any mechanical anomalies with the engine after the incident. He also reported that the engine operated normally after the incident.
