From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilot reported that on takeoff climb, engine quit at approximately 300 ft AGL. Pilot lowered nose, engine regained power then pilot raised nose and engine quit again. He then noticed a field to the left and landed hard. Pilot stated that he put 10 gallons in each tank at baf and then flew to Morrisville for an annual inspection. After the inspection he stated that he ran the engine on the right tank and it quit. Maintenance personnel informed him that he needed to keep the boost pump on for 4 to 6 minutes. He stated that he ran the engine again with the boost pump on for at least 6 minutes, turned off and taxied to run up area. He stated that everything functioned normal, taxied to end of runway, turned boost pump on and attempted takeoff. He also stated that the fuel tank selector remained on the right tank. Aircraft was inspected at the scene and found the fuel selector on the right tank. The right tank was drained and the tank contained about a pint of fuel.
