What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
(-23) The pilot privacy data omitted was on final into bed at approximately 1720 on 02/29/08. Pilot's written and oral statements indicate landing approach was normal until landing gear deployment. Gear selected down but indication was left main gear not down and locked. Pilot cycled gear 4 or 5 times to no avail. Requested tower fly-by and was informed landing gear appeared normal. Pilot was climbing out after tower fly-by and made a "brisk" pull up and turn to the downwind which led to all indications green. Approach and landing were normal. On roll-out as pilot realized left gear was collapsing, tower called out for a go-around. Pilot determined it was too late for that and aircraft ended up sliding sideways and coming to a stop 90 deg off the centerline of runway 11 facing north.
