From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The captain conveyed the following information to the fresno FSDO staff via telephone interview. The subject aircraft (N17231) departed from Bakersfield Meadows Field Airport (bfl) on 03/03/2008 at approximately 1256 PST enroute to phoenix sky harbor international airport (phx). The first officer (fo) was the pilot flying the Canadair regional jet. At approximately 1000' AGL, the captain observed the fo having difficulty at the controls. He then observed the pitch trim wheel rotating in a nose down direction. He stated he assisted the fo in controlling the aircraft and turned off both switches that control the electric trim. The trim movement then stopped and the captain assumed control of the aircraft. According to the captain, the event occurred at about the same time the crew was retracting wing flaps after takeoff. The crew declared an emergency with the bfl ATCT. In addition, they ran emergency checklists, and coordinated with the flight attendant to have the passengers prepare for an emergency landing. The aircraft landed safely at bfl at 1329 PST and taxied back to the boarding gate. There were no injuries to passengers or crew and no known damage to aircraft.
