(-23) On March 12, 2008 about 1453 eastern daylight time, N134JP received minor damage when it impacted the ground attempting to land due to the main gear collapsing as the aircraft touched down. The pilot said he was on final to runway 36 at pwm when he advised the tower that the left gear indication light failed to illuminate. The aircraft completed a low pass for the tower to view the gear. The gear appeared down and the pilot was advised. The pilot requested runway 11 so as to land into the wind and utilize a longer runway. On touch down the left gear collapsed causing the aircraft to turn 90 degrees to the left. At that point the right gear collapsed allowing the aircraft to be in a nose up attitude causing the aircraft to rest on the engine located in the rear of the aircraft. The certificated private pilot (foreign based) and one passenger did not report any injuries. The pilot purchased the aircraft in south carolina and received 25 hours in type prior to ferrying the aircraft back to germany. Damage to aircraft was limited to engine, propeller (engine sudden stoppage) and left wing tip fairing.
