From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) At approx. 1900 EDT pilot executed a practice visual approach to pke county airport (keon) in visual meteorological conditions. During the flare for landing, due to having set the friction lock, the pilot overcontrolled the collective causing the tail to strike the ground. This damaged the notar (no tail rotor) tail boom, and subsequently caused the aircraft to then nose down striking the ground. The rotor blades struck the tail and the ground causing destruction of the aircraft. There were no injuries or post-crash fire. Maintenance records were reviewed and no discrepancies found.
