From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On April 2, 2008, at 1511 MDT, a Beech 58T, N1896L, registered to the pilot privacy data omitted chevrolet oldsmobile pontiac gmc truck, was flying from Colorado springs, Colorado, to great falls, Montana, when his left hand engine started to run rough at 16,000 feet. The aircraft was located approximately 50 miles sw of billings, MT when the pilot feathered the left hand engine and prop. Prior to the left hand engine being shutdown the aircraft had flown for about three hours with no in-flight problems. The certificated pilot notified billings, Montana, air traffic control tower of his condition and diverted to Laurel, Montana, to land. At that time the pilot's right hand engine, that was previously running good, also started to run rough. He landed the aircraft without further incident and sustained no injuries or aircraft damage. No attempt was made to restart the left hand engine in-flight after it was shut down and no fuel flow flucuations were noted. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time and an IFR flight plan under part 91 had been filed. See additional comments on attached page.
