From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On 05/08/2008 this office received a report of an incident involving N703Y, a G-164 serial number 269. The pilot reported that between 1700 and 1800 on 05/05/2008, after receiving a (13 sack load" of rice, he was taking off at the "zz strip" (approx 3 miles northeast of Butte City, CA). At about 15 ft AGL he heard a "pop" and the engine quit. The pilot said he made a turn to the left and setup to land on a perimeter road. After clipping a fence post, he regained directional control of the aircraft but the road was too narrow and the aircraft slipped off the side, coming to rest inverted. The pilot was not injured. This was upgraded from an incident to an accident based on the report of damage on 05/12/2008. This is a preliminary report and will be amended as information is gathered.
