From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23)On 05/14/2008, the pilot of N4660K a Cessna 182-P contacted the Santa Maria airport tower requesting permission to takeoff. From initial contact the controller was concerned about the physical condition of the pilot. The pilot displayed slurred speech and was not able to give a read back of a frequency when requested. The controller asked if the pilot felt he was fit for flight. The pilot stated yes and was given clearance to takeoff. Upon return to the airport N4660K was in the pattern for landing with a commuter aircraft on a revenue flight. On touchdown the Cessna 182 bounced repeatedly striking the prop and collapsing the nose gear. The aircraft slid to a stop in close proximity to a second full commuter aircraft waiting to takeoff from the active runway. When fire crews and airport police responded it was noted that the pilot showed signs of alcohol intoxication. The pilot failed a sobriety test given by the Santa Maria police dept. The pilot was then booked into county jail.
