From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Aircraft departed richwood, WV (3I4) for pleasure flight to upper glade area of cranberry wilderness refuge in webster county, WV. While descending from 4500 ft engine lost power at approximately 4200 ft over Bolair, WV. Pilot initiated emergency landing in grass field striking small tree with left wing tip causing aircraft to slide sideways and collapsing left gear. Aircraft came to rest at end of field on private road damaging propeller. The two occupants onboard departed the aircraft with no injuries noted. The pilot stated that the fuel quantity gauge indicated that there was sufficient fuel in the tank and it was noted that suction was heard when removing the fuel filler cap to verify sufficient fuel.
