Keying ont the witnesses stating black smoke from exhaust I thoroughly investigated the engine and its components. As mention; continuity was established with controls going to stops both on and off. Fuel was traced all the way to the induction system. Magnetos were tested and each performed as expected. Air induction system was in operable mode, no obstructions. Further inspection of the engine and ist accessories, found nothing outstanding that would hve caused the engine to lose power. I did note number two cylinder spark plugs were sooted over. The valve train was in contact and operable, no visible oil leaks or external damage to the engine or the engine accessories. The carburetor was examined extensively; blue fuel was noted in the bowl itself, the floats operated normally and all part of the carburetor appeared to be in good working condition. The floats were taken from the mounting and inspected even further, no abnormalities were noted. The overall condition ofthe aircraft appeared to be in good working condition, taking into account it had been involved in a serious accident. privacy data omitted Principal maintenance inspector, nashville Tennessee flight standards district office, CE-19, telephone 615-324-1318.
