From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On may 20,2008 at approximately 1230, I received notification of a 1963 Piper PA22-108, N5802Z, sn 22-9655, was involved in a mishap while ground taxi and ground power engine run-up at the Lewiston Auburn airport (klew). Initial report via the FBO manager for twin city aviation, privacy data omitted did verified that there were no injuries and the aircraft had flipped over in the area that pilots taxi to in order to do the aircraft engine run up. This inspector traveled to Lewiston Auburn airport (lew) to investigate the inverted mishap on may 20, 2008 and the following is the results and the narrative of the inspection. A preliminary inspection of the damaged aircraft revealed several wing ribs on both left and right wings were bent and damaged. Both wing struts were bent and showed cracking damage. The upper center portion of the windshield is broken, slight damage to the left wing leading edge, left lower frame tube is bent, top of the rudder is bent and deformed, strobe light completely smashed and the both fuel tanks were leaking. The engine appeared satisfactory however both propeller blade tips are bent, and the spinner was crushed. A engine teardown and hidden damage inspection should be performed as there may be other damage that occurred and not noted within this report. A full continuity inspection was not completed due to the pilot report stated this was a ground run operation and there was no intent for flight. The maintenance records reveal the annual inspection was completed on 11/22/2007 at twin city aviation. The aircraft records showed no discrepancies.
