From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Aircraft departed morain airpark at 1040 local time to begin a cross country flight with final destination reno Nevada. Aircraft had undergone annual inspection over the weekend prior and had not been flown since inspection was completed. Aircraft experienced a partial power loss and engine "sputtering" shortly after takeoff. Pilot appears to have attempted a left turn back to the runway but the right wing impacted a street light. Aircraft then impacted the ground, impacted with and destroyed a telephone pole, and split apart upon impact with a pine tree. Right wingtip departed aircraft upon impact with street light. Propeller departed aircraft upon impact with telephone pole. Engine and fuel tank became lodged in the pine tree, fuel tank was ruptured by tree branch.
