From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Aircraft departed pittsown, NJ (N40) approximately 1430 hours, during approach to rwy 26 at Lancaster, PA (lns) approximately 3 miles from runway, pilot (PIC) reduced engine power to maintain VASI glidepath. Aircraft briefly acquired glidepath and descended slightly below. PIC attempted to increase engine power, to regain glidepath, engine did no respond to throttle input. PIC concluded ground impact was imminent, he made emergency call to lns ATCT and attempted to raise landing gear. Aircraft came to rest approximately 3/4 mile from rwy 26 threshold, in a cornfield. Pilot received minor head contusion during event and exited the aircraft without assistance. The aircraft incurred substantial damage to wing and fuselage structures. Preliminary inspection of aircraft and engine revealed no specific causal factor for lack of engine response.
