From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On Saturday, July 12, 2008 at approximaely 1245 hours, aircraft N647K piloted by a private pilot landed on a private grass runway (IN31). During landing rollout the aircraft's lower right wing struck a telephone utility post on the north side of the grass runway. This turned the aircraft to the right and the right main wheel entered a ditch located along the north side of the grass runway. While the pilot was attempting to recover the aircraft the tailwheel struck a railroad tie that was lying along the north edge of the grass runway. The aircraft then turned clockwise, went into the ditch along the north side of the west of the runway and settled in a nose down/tail up position. There were markings in the ditch along the north side of the grass runway approximately 200 feet west of the telephone utility post that the aircraft lower right wing had contacted. Markings on the ground indicated where the aircraft propeller struck the ground and where the aircraft came to rest. The railroad tie that the aircraft tailwheel struck was located approximately 161 feet west of the telephone utility post that the aircraft lower right wing contacted.
