From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The aircraft was being operated FAR part 137, aerial application, when the pilot experienced a fluctuation in the engine torque. The engine performance deteriorated as the pilot elected to land the aircraft on a hard surfaced, rural road in the immediate area of the application process. As the aircraft was attempted to be landed on a rural road in a northerly direction, the left wing contacted a standing corn crop that prevented the accomplishment of a controlled landing. The aircraft came to rest on the left side of the road experiencing substantial damage to the wings and right fuselage. As the aircraft was recovered from the accident site, it was noted that the engine oil filler cap was not installed in the engine. The missing oil filler cap had permitted oil loss from the engine leading to loss of propeller control that resulted in engine the torque fluctuation and loss of power.

As the FAA filed it
