From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) N7211Z (PA-25-235 tow plane) was involved in a midair collision with a SGS2-23A glider at approx 3000' AGL at 1415 PDT after departing 0L7. After normal cable release (N33923) turned 60-70 degrees to the right (southwest) as the tow plane (N7211Z) turned away and to the left (northeast). After approx 2-3 minutes while maneuvering to enter the traffic pattern at 0L7 the PIC of N7211Z felt an impact which he then visually confirmed was with N33923. N33923 began an uncommanded turn to right which the PIC was able to correct with 10-20 degrees of aileron and was able to maintain aircraft control until a safe landing was executed onto rwy 20L of 0L7 whic was less than 2 miles from the midair sight. Substantial damage to the vertical stabilizer and rudder on N33923 resulted. Minor damage resulted to the right main landing gear strut of N7211Z which also landed safely.
