From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) privacy data omitted was giving dual instruction to privacy data omitted in a lyons rober navajo hks an experimental weight shift powered glider. They departed the chelan WA (S10) airport at about 1630 departing towards the east. They crossed the ridgeline onto the plateau east of chelan near mansfield, WA. They noticed two micro bursts in the area where they intended to practice. They applied full power and turned to avoid the area with the micro bursts. They were heading back towards the chelan airport when they started to encounter turbulence over the ridge at about 3800 (800 feet AGL). They decided to divert to the mansfield WA airport. When turning towards mansfield they observed micro bursts along their path. They elected to make a precautionary landing in a field where the aircraft encountered a down draft causing the aircraft to strike the ground and nose over.
