From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On August 08, 2008 pilot in command privacy data omitted departed beaufort county airport (73J) south carolina, with a planned landing at Ridgeland Airport (3J1) south carolina, in Mooney aircraft M20F N9137V, registered to keith inc. upon attempting to land at 3J1 on runway 21, pilot had crabbed into the wind and reduced the crab about 5 feet off the runway. The wind pushed him to the left, over the runway lights, and he decided to go around. At that time, the aircraft hit the ground, causing it to spin hard to the left. Then the left wing hit, caused the engine to hit and tear off the aircraft. The aircraft received substantial damge. Pilot does not maintain flight logbook, and it was not possible to get hours in make and mode. Pilot has not operated this or any aircraft more than 1/2 hour in the last year or longer.
