From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) N360J is an experimental homebuilt Lancair 320 airplane. privacy data omitted Was the pilot in command (PIC) of this aircraft on a flight under IFR from frederick, Maryland (fdk) to great barrington, Massachusetts (gbr). Upon landing in gbr, the PIC states having a hard landing and shearing off the left main gear. The PIC then reprots executing an immediate go-around. The aircraft made several low approaches to this airfield where the airport manager observed the loss of the left main gear. The pilot reports coordinating with the local aircraft rescue and fire fighting (ARFF) units in the local area to land at a nearby uninhabited field. The PIC elected to divert to barnes in westfield, massachussets (baf). The PIC then requested a foamed runway at which time he was then diverted to Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Connecticut (bdl) where this service was available. After conducting low approaches to both baf and bdl the pilot conducted his approach to bdl. The PIC elected to raise the remaining two landing gear and conduct a complete gear-up landing on the foamed runway. The aircraft came to rest approximately 1/3 down the runway and approximately 20 feet right of centerline on an heading approximately 20 degrees north of runway heading. The PIC and his passenger, privacy data omitted did not sustain any injuries as a result of this incident. The aircraft sustained damage, however did not sustain substantial damage. ARFF crews attended to the incident instantly and were on scene throuout the investigation. The aircraft was hoisted and removed from the scene shortly after the incident and the runway was returned to air traffic control use.
