From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) While on final approach, the pilot let the aircraft drift left of centerline to the runway. While trying to correct the flight path, he let the airspeed deteriorate. At approximately 50 feet, the aircraft ballooned and dropped onto the runway. The main landing gear separated from the aircraft, the left wing contacted the ground and the aircraft skidded to a stop. The aircraft is a amateur built experimental and the pilot was test flying the aircraft for a flight characteristics check after a flight control rigging change. The aircraft had a history of the left wing being heavy.
