From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) At approximately 1430CDT a passing motorist notified a local resident that the aircraft had crashed. The local resident was the first person on-scene and was a 23 year veteran of Cleburne fire dept who was off duty and lived across the road from the accident site. He checked the pilot and noted he was deceased. Subsequently local police and fire units arrived on the scene. The pilot was removed to tarrant county coroner office. FAA tox kit supplied to coroner office. Texas department of public safety secured the crash site. The weather was VFR with visibility greater than 10 miles and light winds from the south. The pilot was participating in a labor day flying competition from midlothian, Texas, Texas soaring association (tsa). The aircraft appeared to impact the ground at a high rate of descent in a counter clockwise spin. The empenage was broken from the fuselage and lay in the direction of rotation. There was also evidence that the right wing had struck the ground near the wing tip and left a divot. The FAA inspector recovered the flight date logger, aircraft log book. NTSB and owner coordinated aircraft removal.
