From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The pilot was operating an amateur-built aircraft. The pilot reported, when trying to make a right hand turn, that the control stick locked up. The aircraft started to turn to the left and then straight down. At the last minute, the pilot pulled hard on the control stick freeing the controls. The aircraft was too low to recover and landed in a farm field. The aircraft received minor damage. The pilot and the passenger were uninjured. On post-flight inspection, a 1/4" drive socket was found on the floor of the cockpit and a small screwdriver was found under the control stick. It appeared that the tools found in the aircraft caused the controls to lock up. Airman was counseled on tool control.
