From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The office notified by new england area operations center that : "N2318T, pa 28, made hard landing on runway 17 and blew the nose gear tire at Sugarloaf Regional Airport, carrabasett, ME at 2001 EDT, 9/20/08. Aircraft went off the runway edge. Damage reported to the prop, nose cone, cowling, and landing gear. No injuries. No ATC contact. "Investigation by this office revealed substantial damage to aircraft nose landing gear, nose cone, propeller and firewall. Witness statement from pilot at follows; "after overflying the airport, I crossed from west to east and made a short left base approach to runway 17, I crossed the numbers at a reasonable height. I cut the power back and attempted to flare. The plane bounced very hard. It seemed to be porpoising and bounced hard two more times. Then it ground to a halt and pulled half way off the right side of the runway as it did so. My best guess is that my speed was too high and I was trying to land by instinct rather than watching the airspeed."
