From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 20 September, 2008, at 1120 local EDT, an experimental amateur built glasair iii, N89FS, serial number 3183, partially owned and operated by privacy data omitted, had a propeller strike during landing, gear retracted, on runway 11 at the Merritt Island Airport (coi), titusville, Florida. The pilot immediately increased power when he heard the clanging noise and was able to regain flight. He re-entered the VFR tracking pattern, extended the landing gear, and landed safely before loosing right brake pressure causing aircraft to depart runway onto to a grassy strip before coming to rest at the end of the runway. A flight plan was filed and visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time. Post flight inspection of the aircraft revealed a leaking right brake caliper. The propeller blade tips were bent back approximately 3-4 inches and the airframe did not sustain any damage. The pilot was not injured. The flight originated at the hilton head airport, beaufort county, south carolina, on 20 September, 2008, at 1000 EDT.

As the FAA filed it

ON 20 SEPTEMBER, 2008, AT 1120 LOCAL EDT, AN EXPERIMENTAL AMATEUR BUILT GLASAIR III, N89FS, SERIAL NUMBER 3183, PARTIALLY OWNED AND OPERATED BY ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, HAD A PROPELLER STRIKE DURING LANDING, GEAR RETRACTED, ON RUNWAY 11 AT THE MERRITT ISLAND AIRPORT (COI), TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA.
