From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On October 9, 2008, at 1245Z, a Cessna 172, N1640E, registered to hej aviation inc, in joshua Texas, landed in an open field about 5 miles east of mckinney airport (ktki), while on traffic watch duties. In flight, the pilot noticed a decrease in RPM and power output as well as a indication of loss of engine oil pressure. The pilot was in radio contact with tki control tower during the whole event, and decided to proceed with a precautionary landing in an open field since, in his judgement, he was unable to sustain flight and safely land at tki. The pilot stated that the propeller stopped windmilling upon touch down. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time. No damage to the aircraft were noted and both the pilot and his passenger were not injured. The pilot is holder of commercial and instructor certificates.
