From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Student pilot was on his first solo-cross country flight and returning to originating airport, Bay Bridge Airport (W29) in Stevensville, MD. On approach to runway 29 a witness stated that the aircraft was initially lined up, but began to flare prior to landing. Aircraft bounced on landing approximately halfway down the runway and veered to the left, bouncing a second time in the grass area between runway and taxi-way, hitting the airport noise abatement sign and finally coming to a stop in the brush line adjacent to the runway. Total distance from initial touch down on runway to stop was 500'. Damage to aircraft was to the propeller tip, right engine cowling and leading edge of right wing as a result of hitting the airport's noise abatement sign. Pilot was not available at the time the FAA icc arrived; he had departed. In a phone conversation with the pilot, he stated that everything appeared to be fine until his initial touch down on W29 and the aircraft began to bounce; three times and coming to a stop in the weeds.
