From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On November 19, 2008 at approximately 0800 hrs aircraft N389CP, serial # 1881, was on a cross country VFR training flight departing from flagler county airport (X47) to cecil field airport (vqq). As the aircraft began its descent to vqq the pilot privacy data omitted advised his student pilot, privacy data omitted, to pull back the engine throttle. The student pulled the engine throttle to idle and then attempted to increase power when the engine throttle jammed in the idle position. The pilot declared an emergency, and attempted to land at Reynolds Airpark (FL60) but was unable to maintain his airpseed and landed a half mile short of the runway in a wooded area. Investigation revealed the standby alternator a+ wire had chafed through the engine throttle cable resulting in the a+ wire and engine throttle cable to fuse together. This action prevented the pilot from advancing the engine throttle past idle.

As the FAA filed it

(-23) ON NOVEMBER 19, 2008 AT APPROXIMATELY 0800 HRS AIRCRAFT N389CP, SERIAL # 1881, WAS ON A CROSS COUNTRY VFR TRAINING FLIGHT DEPARTING FROM FLAGLER COUNTY AIRPORT (X47) TO CECIL FIELD AIRPORT (VQQ). AS THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN ITS DESCENT TO VQQ THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ ADVISED HIS STUDENT PILOT, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, TO PULL BACK THE ENGINE THROTTLE.
