From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot was VFR enroute to Iola, Kansas (K88) for a planned fuel stop. The pilot made a visual approach torunway 1 and was in the landing flare as he observed another aircraft approaching to land on runway 19. The pilot of the accident aircraft elected to perform a go-around because he believed the other pilot approaching to land on runway 19 did not observe that he was landing on runway 1. The pilot of the aircraft landing on runway 19 observed the accident aircraft during the go-around, at an estimated 75 feet AGL abeam the end of runway 19 and concluded the aircraft would pass behind him as continued to land on runway 19. The pilot of the accident aircraft was unable to return to the runway and the aircraft crashed approximately 100 yards off the end of runway 19. The damage was substantial, and the aircraft later burned in post crash fire.
