What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
On February 4, 2009, N8209J, a Piper Aerostar 601P aircraft, departed plainview, Texas (pvw) enroute to Childress, Texas (cds). The pilot announced his intentions to land runway 17 at cds, then verified the landing gear was down and locked through the aircraft landing gear indication system. The pilot and passenger also performed visual inspection to determine the main landing gear (MLG) was down. Both occupants verified the nose landing gear (NLG) was down by looking at the reflection from the propeller spinners. The pilot performed a normal landing. During touchdown the NLG collapsed. The aircraft skidded approximately 1000 feet when the pilot exited the runway onto taxiway echo. At this point the right MLG partially collapsed and the right engine propeller contacted the ground. The initial propeller strike was approximately 20 feet past runway 17 and the aircraft came to rest between runway 17 and taxiway echo. After raising the aircraft, hydraulic power was applied and all gear extended normally. Gear annunciator lights and aural warning worked normally. Cause is unknown at this time.
