From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Approaching Floyd w Jones airport (lbo) in Lebanon, Missouri, while in a descent, the engine began to run rough so the pilot applied carb heat and the engine began to run somewhat smoother. As he began to prepare for an arrival at the airport, he pushed the carb heat partially in and leveled off. The pilot stated that the engine roughness increased and, rather than fly over the town with a questionable engine, he decided to execute a precautionary landing in a vacant field 6 miles north of town. Minor damage occurred to a bolt on the right main landing gear strut during the successful off-field landing. Incident ICE052009012 is closed.

As the FAA filed it
