From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Helicopter crashed during aerial herding of deer. Pilot said he and the passenger had exited the helicopter while engine still operating to assist a ground team to secure animal. The pilot stated the friction lock on the collective was engaged. The pilot stated he believed a gust of wind attributed to the helicopter lifting up approximately 10 feet off the ground and then impacted back to the ground rolling over onto its left side. The aircraft was destroyed. Inspection of the collective friction lock indicated it to be in the loked position but against the boot. A bracket attached to the lock mechanism showed a fresh break at the attach point. There were no injuries on the ground. No post crash fire.
