From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On may 17, 2009 at approximately 1030 MDT, N8042D, a pipe PA22-150, registered to the pilot was landign at Las Cruces, NM airport (lru) to refuel after departing casa grande, AZ (cgz) earlier that day. The pilot reported that 10 or 15 seconds after touching down on runway 22, he experienced clear air turbulence and strong wind gusts from the left side of the aircraft. The gusts lifted the aircraft off the runway and put the aircraft in an unusual attitude. Another gust spun the aircraft to the left putting in into a sideways skid to the right. The right main landing gear collapsed causing the propeller to strike the ground and the aircraft subsequently slid off the runway to the left. The aircraft fuselage and right wing sustained substantial damage. The private pilot was not injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of this CFR part 91 flight.
