From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The airman stated that he thinks the nose landing gear touched down first while he was landing on runway 36 at Decatur, IL. The aircraft began to "porpoise" touching down hard on the nose landing gear twice. On the third touchdown the nose landing gear broke off and the aircraft skidded on it's nose and main landing gear approximate 680 feet before stopping. The aircraft received damage to the propeller, bottom engine cowling and nose landing gear assembly. The pilot in command, the sole occupant of the aircraft, was uninjured.
