From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On may 22, 2009, the pilot and sole occupant of a Maule M-5 aircraft departed from a private landing area at a rock quarry. The pilot performed a tear drop turn to reverse course, intending to make a low pass in the opposite direction at the strip he had just departed. Approximately one quarter mile prior to reaching the airstrip, while making the turn and in a left bank, the aircraft struck two high voltage power line cables. The pilot then returned to the private landing area and landed without further incident. The aircraft suffered minor damage and there were no injuries reported. The power line cables were both severed.
