(-23) On June 15, 2009 at approximately 1610 EDT local time, an experimental amateur-built starduster SA-300 aircraft, s/n 1145, bearing reegistration number N3DL, registered to promise recording inc., piloted by Mr. Roy berube, sustained substantial damage during an unplanned forced landing in a corn field located at privacy data omitted. There was no flight plan filed for the pleasure flight, conducted under 14 CFR part 91. The pilot reported that he owned the aircraft, and departed the lancaster county airport (kbqr) to practice stalls to illustrate the excellent controllability of the aircraft. The pilot stated he started back to kbqr and attempted to apply power and the engine remained at low power - just above idle. He notified buffalo air traffic control he would not make the airfield, and attempted to land in the corn field. The aircraft touched down on an upward slope, which sheared off the landing gear. The aircraft came to rest inverted. Since the pilot was wearing a shoulder harness, he sustained no injuries. The aircraft sustained substantial damage with damage to the left wing spar. The pilot had logged 40 hours during the previous 90 days. The aircraft did sustain additional damage to the left wingtip, propeller, rudder and antennas mounted on the upper surface of the fuselage. FAA inspectors inspected the aircraft accident site, and found no fuel present at the engine fuel injector or aircraft fuel gascolater. The pilot informed the FAA inspectors that the approximate useable was 40 U.S. Gallons. He had flown the aircraft previously, and did not top the fuel tanks off for this flight.
