From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Aircraft N284AH departed cooper for greenville municipal airport (gcy) pilot was descending through 2500 ft for gcy when the engine lost power. The pilot restarted the engine, the engine ran for a short time and lost power again. One more attempt was made to restart the engine which was unsuccessful. The pilot initiated a forced landing by turning right towards an open field to a heading of 140 degrees, and stalled the airplane in a clean configuration at about 100 ft above the ground while concentrating on clearing obstacles in the forced landing area. The airplane collided with the ground in a nose down attitude traveled 50 ft then spun to the left 180 degrees to a heading of 320 before it came to a sudden stop. The pilot exited the aircraft with minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.
