From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 02/26/09 N8339A was determined to be in airworthy condition by an annual inspection. Rose ganim, PIC and owner of N8339A noted in a personal log on 06/07/09 engine rough/vibration. Aircraft was brought to same maintenance facility as annual, for inspection of the rough running engine. The engine was inspected and a defective oil return tube was replaced on cylinder #1; aircraft was approved for return to service. Aircraft was then flown three times, for 2.1 hours, without incident. On 07/19/09 Ms. Ganim reported a rough engine to ATC and later reported she had lost half power and would be landing in a field. Ms. Gamin overshot the approach and attempted to extend to a new landing site. Aircraft made contact with treetops, was now in a right turn, and impacted a chain link fence before impacting a hillside.
