From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilot was on a phase one flight in this experimental. After about 20 minutes into an uneventful flight, aircraft had a partial power loss due to rising water temperature and cylinder head temperature. Pilot indicated that he noticed a burning smell so he elected to make a precautionary landing in a bean field about 7 mile south-west of the Nampa airport. During the "flair out" on landing the rudder, elevator, empannage and propeller substained substantial damage. The pilot removed the aircraft from the bean field and recovered it to his home.
