What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
(-23) Aircraft was not maintained at a sufficient altitude, during turn from base to final, to overcome apparent high negative lift experienced on final. Pilot was forced to attempt an emergency landing in an adjacent parking lot. Aircraft impacted the ground at an excessively high sink rate and subsequently impacted a tree at the opposite end of the parking area. Aircraft contacted the ground wings level and slightly nose low. Aircraft suffered substantial damage due to high g forces upon landing. Major wing damage was caused by contact of the wing leading edge with a tree. Pilot had very minor scrapes of knee and elbow. No medical attention was sought.
